Status Update

This project hopes to empower average Afghans to monitor the behavior of political actors at polling centers. The project will also explore the best method for photo capture and SMS/texting technology during the initial pilot, including a "quick count" vote verification.

How it Works

The proposed research design involves a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT), the 'gold standard' method for measuring the impact of innovative projects. Additionally, we hope that byfocusing on "quick count" monitoring-whereby Afghans at the polling stations send an SMS picture of the polling center tally which, by law, will be posted in the center after counting is completed-we can maximize the effectiveness of cellular monitoring.
